
Dr. Jonathan Grossman
Research
Dr. Jonathan Grossman is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Studies. Having earned his PhD at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he later served as a Postdoctoral Fellow and taught courses at the University of Texas at Austin and the Hebrew University.
Jonathan studies and teaches migration and diaspora politics, specializing in Israel's relations with the Jewish and Israeli diasporas. His work also examines, among other topics, emigration from Israel and Israeli political discourse toward emigrants; Israeli–Latin American relations; ethnicity, nationalism, race, and citizenship in Latin America; and research transparency and reproducibility in the social sciences. In his research, he combines different theoretical and methodological approaches, including archival work, oral interviews, discourse analysis, computer-assisted qualitative data analysis, and the construction of qualitative and quantitative databases. He is particularly interested in the intersections between history and theory in Political Science and International Relations, as well as in the use of digital tools for research and teaching in the social sciences and humanities. He has published articles in such journals as Ethnic and Racial Studies, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Comparative Migration Studies, Global Networks, Political Geography, and The British Journal of Politics and International Relations.
In the current academic year, Jonathan teaches the undergraduate seminar "Diasporas in World Politics" and the graduate course "Approaches and Theories in International Relations."
