Call for Applications: Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Political Science
The Department of Political Studies at Bar-Ilan University invites applications for up to two full-time tenure-track faculty positions, beginning on October 1, 2027.
We welcome applications from outstanding scholars in the following subfields of political science:
1. Political Economy
We seek a scholar specializing in political economy. The successful candidate will pursue theory-driven, empirically grounded research at the intersection of politics and economics. Relevant areas of expertise may include development, trade, redistribution, institutions, regulation, and related topics.
2. Comparative Politics – Political Institutions
We seek a scholar in comparative politics whose research focuses on political institutions. The successful candidate will conduct theory-driven, data-intensive research on topics such as legislatures, electoral systems, party systems, political representation, or institutional design. Demonstrated expertise in quantitative methods is an advantage.
3. Security Studies
We seek a scholar specializing in security studies. Areas of interest may include international security, strategic studies, military affairs, conflict processes, intelligence, cybersecurity, terrorism, or related fields.
4. Public Administration
We seek a scholar specializing in public administration. Relevant research areas may include public management, governance, public policy implementation, bureaucratic institutions, administrative reform, regulation, or public-sector innovation.
5. Environmental Politics
We seek a scholar specializing in environmental politics. The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda addressing the political dimensions of environmental and climate issues, including environmental governance, climate policy, sustainability, political behavior, and the political economy of environmental change.
Outstanding candidates in other subfields of political science may also be considered in cases of exceptional merit.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. by the application deadline (September 1, 2026). A typical background includes a doctorate in political science, political studies, government, international relations, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral experience is a distinct advantage.
Applicants should possess sufficient proficiency in Hebrew to teach departmental courses in Hebrew.
Application Materials
Applicants should submit the following:
A detailed curriculum vitae, including a full list of publications (please indicate journal Impact Factors where available), postdoctoral experience, grants received, conference participation, and other relevant academic activities.
A scientific biography, including a research statement and research plan for the next 2–5 years (maximum 2 pages).
A list of three courses the applicant is prepared to teach, including a brief description of each course.
Items 1–3 should be combined into a single PDF file.
Teaching evaluations (if available).
Three publications (submitted as separate PDF files).
Three letters of recommendation, sent directly by the referees to research.students@biu.ac.il, addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee. Ideally, one letter should be from the Ph.D. supervisor, one from the postdoctoral supervisor (if applicable), and one from an additional academic referee with whom the candidate has not co-authored publications.
