Call for Applicants
Department of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Bar Ilan University
The Department of Political Studies is seeking to recruit full-time faculty members for tenure-track positions beginning October 1, 2026. We invite applications in the following subfields of political science:
1. Middle East Politics
We seek a political scientist specializing in the politics of the Middle East. Candidates should have advanced proficiency in Arabic or Farsi, and a strong research agenda. We welcome applicants whose work addresses key political dynamics in the region, such as authoritarianism, political institutions, identity, foreign policy, conflict, or political economy.
2. Comparative Politics – Political Institutions
We seek a scholar in comparative politics. The ideal candidate will conduct theory-driven, data-intensive research on topics such as legislatures, electoral systems, party systems, or institutional design. A demonstrated ability to employ quantitative methods is an advantage.
3. Political Economy
We seek a scholar specializing in political economy. The ideal candidate will pursue theory-driven, empirically grounded research at the intersection of politics and economics, with interests that may include development, trade, redistribution, institutions, regulation.
4. Environmental Politics
We seek a scholar specializing in environmental politics. The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda addressing the political dimensions of environmental and climate issues, such as environmental governance, climate policy, sustainability, political behavior, or the political economy of environmental change.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. by October 1, 2026. A typical background includes a doctorate in political science, political studies, government, or international relations. Post-doctoral experience is an advantage. Proficiency in Hebrew is required, and applicants are expected to teach in Hebrew.
Application Materials
Applicants should submit the following:
1. A detailed CV, including a full list of publications (please include IF - if available), post-doctoral experience, grants received, participation in conferences, etc.
2. A scientific biography, including a research plan for the next 2–5 years (max. 2 pages).
3. A list of relevant 3 courses the applicant is willing to teach, with brief descriptions for each course. Please send items 1–3 as a single PDF file.
4. Teaching evaluations (if available).
5. Three publications (as PDF files).
6. Three letters of recommendation should be sent directly by the referees to: research.students@biu.ac.il, addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee. Ideally, one letter should come from the PhD supervisor, one from the postdoctoral supervisor, and one additional letter from an academic with whom the candidate has not published.
